As the country gears up for another exciting season of USA Softball, we take a moment to look back at the story behind the jersey. The softball jersey has come to be synonymous with American athleticism and teamwork, but it didn’t start out that way. In fact, the first softball jerseys were made in a very different way. Initially, players just wore their regular clothes when playing softball. There was no standard uniform, and teams would often just wear whatever they had. This resulted in a lot of variety in terms of what players wore on the field. In 1911, however, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) decided to standardize the uniforms for all of their sports. They held a contest to design a new jersey for softball, and the winner was a man named John R. Meyers.
In the summer of 2004, the United States women’s national softball team traveled to Athens, Greece to compete in the Olympic Games. The players wore uniforms with stars and stripes on the front, and “USA” emblazoned across the back. They were a sight to behold, and they dominated their competition, winning the gold medal. The uniforms were a huge hit with fans, and soon everyone wanted one. Orders started pouring in, and the team had a new problem on their hands. They didn’t have enough jerseys to meet the demand. That’s when they turned to usa softball jersey. We were able to quickly produce thousands of jerseys for the team, and they were able to continue dominating on the field.
